STATUS OF THE PTO 2007

Message from Outgoing PTO President Ann Kerr Bache

The main purpose of the PTO, besides being a forum for parent communications, is enhancement of the school for the benefit of our teachers and students. Enhancements are accomplished through PTO FUNDRAISING. Every year the PTO conducts yearlong activities and single events. The ongoing activities are fun and provide some money, but the Spellathon and Annual Star Gala provide the largest source of funds. Here is what YOU raised from the various activities this year –

Pizza lunch:  $12K -- Thank you Theo and Angela!

Script Sales: $10K:Thank you Liz and Lisa!

Spellathon:   $25K – most successful so far- thank you Katherine Gomez!

STAR GALA:       $115K over the top thank you Anseth, Cathleen and Lynn!

Frequently Asked Questions -- Where or Where did all the $$ GO?

The PTO takes care of many small items such as Thanksgiving Baskets and usually turns funds over to the general operating fund. This year with the support of Mrs. Lowell, Msgr. Lyng and the School Board, the PTO was able to directly fund major technology improvements and create a special new restricted enrichment fund:

Teacher and Staff Enrichment:   A New Enrichment Fund for the benefit of teachers and staff has been Established & is Funded this year at $50K

SMA Technology Improvements

New Computers and Software

New Network Server and new Computer Lab Facilities

New High Speed Wired Network and Wireless Network

A detailed description of these will be placed on the web. Work will begin on wiring next week and be completed by start of summer school.

What is Going to Happen Next Year?  -- The PTO is in Great Shape

Thanks to a new team of dedicated parents a new PTO president, officers and Gala Chairs will be elected tomorrow – and names will be posted. They will need your help to continue to make SMA the best it can be. It has been my pleasure and privilege serving as PTO President the last two years. I could not have done it without the dedication of the PTO Officers and Chairs – especially Bernadette Brannigan, volunteer extraordinaire! – Please think about how to get involved and --  Support Your PTO!
