Physical and Health Education Standards

Kindergarten - Third Grade

1.         Students will be able to demonstrate the locomotor skills of walking, running, hopping, skipping, chasing, dodging,

            jumping, and sliding with age appropriate proficiency.

 2.         Students will demonstrate mastery of the non-locomotor skills of turning, twisting, balancing, bending and  

            stretching.

 3.         Students will demonstrate the ability to use the manipulative skills of throwing, catching, kicking and dribbling.

 4.         Students will demonstrate Christian values while participating in games. These game skills include:

                        a) understanding games and their rules

                        b) working as an individual

                        c) working with a partner

                        d) working in a group

                        e) sportsmanship

 5.         Students will demonstrate the ability to move their bodies in rhythm and in patterns set to music.

 6.         Students will demonstrate understanding and application of various physical fitness components including: c

             cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, muscular strength and muscular endurance.

 7.         Students will demonstrate a basic understanding of health education topics including: hygiene, nutrition,

             responsible behavior, first aid, CPR, alcohol and drug use and community resources.

 

Fourth Grade

Students will be able to:

  1. move from one place to another at a slow and rhythmic pace.
  2. move from one place to another at a fast rhythmic pace.
  3. hop in one place or on one foot or from place to another place.
  4. skip in place or from place to another place.
  5. move after something to retrieve or tag at a fast pace.
  6. move away in any direction from being tagged or hit by an object.
  7. move up and down or from place to another on their own or with a rope, hoop, etc.
  8. move on a slippery surface in a gliding rhythmic motion.

Students will demonstrate mastery of the non-locomotor skills of turning, twisting, balancing, bending and stretching.

Students will be able to:

  1. reverse their direction from which they are falling.
  2. turn their upper body versus their lower body and vice-versa.
  3. refrain from falling down or falling over while doing a movement activity or using an apparatus.
  4. move parts of the body such as arms, legs, and trunk in different directions.
  5. help keep muscles and joints strong and healthy and warm prior to special activities.

Students will demonstrate the ability to use the manipulative skills of throwing, catching, kicking and dribbling.

Students will be able to:

  1. properly throw a variety of different size and shape balls.
  2. catch different size and shape balls.
  3. kick a variety of different size and shape balls.
  4. bounce or kick a ball while moving in a certain direction.

  4. assess and assist in simple first-aid responses to minor injuries using universal precautions.
